The Five Invitations: Discovering What Death Can Teach Us About Living Fully
with Frank Ostaseski
Life and death are a package deal. They cannot be pulled apart and we cannot truly live unless we are aware of death. Death is always with us, in the marrow of every passing moment. And the good news is we don’t have to wait until the end of our lives to realize the wisdom that death has to offer.
This interactive day long program will include practical tools and practices for the cultivation of mindfulness and compassion, exploration of obstacles on the path of service and our personal relationship with death. This course offers an approach to care that is mindfulness-based, compassion-focused and relationship-centered. We utilize a range of learning modalities to address professional development, emphasizing experiential learning and pragmatic application.
- 9:30-11:30 am. Nature of the Service Relationship
- 1:00-3:00 p.m. Self-Awareness, Compassion and Skillful Action
- 3:15-4:45 p.m. Personal Relationship to Death
Friday, March 2, 2018 – Rick Hanson, PhD (5.0 CE’s)
Mindful Cultivation
with Rick Hanson, PhD
Mindfulness is profoundly important—but not enough. We grow compassion and wisdom by turning passing experiences of them into lasting changes in the brain. Unfortunately, most beneficial experiences was through us like water through a sieve, while stressful, painful experiences “stick” due to the brain’s negativity bias.
Mindfulness of passing mental states does not itself grow specific psychological resources. This experiential workshop will explore an embodied intimacy with beneficial experiences—without clinging to them—to increase their encoding in neural networks. Then daily life is full of opportunities for lasting healing, growth, and transformation.
- 9:30-11:30 a.m. Positive Neuroplasticity
- 1:00-3:00 p.m. The Green Zone Brain
- 3:15-4:45 p.m. Nowness, Wholeness, Allness

Radical Love—Awakening and Living from Your Fearless Heart
with Tara Brach, PhD
Compassion toward ourselves and others is an essential element in all emotional healing, social change and spiritual awakening. Yet our greatest challenge is developing the capacity to unconditionally embrace this life.
This weekend training in Radical Love will investigate the individual and collective conditioning that keeps us imprisoned in a fearful and limited sense of self. We will then explore a sequence of mindfulness-based teachings and practices drawn from Buddhist and Western psychology that directly cultivate compassion and allow us to act in the world aligned with our hearts.
This training is didactic and experiential, and includes some interpersonal meditations as well as time for questions and sharing. It is geared for psychotherapists of all types, as well as for physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, bodyworkers, educators and social activists.
